multi disciplinary arts visual arts movement drama

Current projects include:

  • New Business Direction. After 6 years of full-time business operation, Busy Ape Arts is now spending time re-defining its core aims and direction. We are currently exploring our vision and are making some exciting discoveries within the organisation. It is likely that the structure of Busy Ape Arts will change over the coming months, but whatever occurs will be exciting and progressive. If you want to find out more about this process, please contact us on 01207 282 228 or mail@busyapearts.co.uk
  • Youth arts activities at the Phoenix Arts Centre have changed recently. Our Youth Theatre and Friday Night Club have been put on hold for the forseeable future. These clubs will not continue whilst we confirm the direction of the organisation, but all young people will be informed as soon as new project opportunities arise. We do have plans to fundraise for the continuation of these clubs, but not until 2007.
  • Museum of My Life. We're about to start a great project with partners New Writing North and Captain Cook Birthplace Museum in Middlesbrough. The project explores creative writing, heritage and visual arts and Gemma and Abi will be working with writers Bob Beagrie and Any Willaby. During the project, young people and children from Grangetown will make and curate their own exhibition based on the stories of their lives.
  • Creative Action Research Awards. We have just been successful in receiving a grant from CARA, which is aimed at developing meaningful creative research projects within schools. This is an extension of an exciting partnership between Busy Ape Arts, Bewley Infant School in Billingham and Mark Labrow, freelance impro artist. Gemma will be exploring Mantle of the Expert devices to find out about how children learn creatively.
  • Creative Arts Programme. We are currently working at St Edward's RC Primary School in Middlesbrough to deliver an exciting range of after-school arts activities. The programme forms part of the school's strategies for extended hours learning and young people will be learning skills in dance, drama, percussion and visual art. By linking with children from Linthorpe Primary School too, we aim to help the children develop meaningful relationships and experiences, as well as have the opportunity to showcase their skills in special performances and events.
